Pickens County
Tax and Accounting Services in Liberty, SC
Ten minutes from our office on Siloam Road, which makes a difference to how the work actually gets done.
Close enough to drop something off
Liberty sits between Easley and Pickens on Highway 93, and our office is a ten-minute drive from the middle of town. That is close enough that the practical arrangements change.
It means a folder can be dropped off on the way past rather than scanned. It means a signature can be collected without scheduling a call. It means that when something arrives from the IRS and you want a straight answer about whether it matters, you can bring the letter in and get one the same week.
None of that is essential — everything here can be done through the portal and over video, and plenty of our Liberty clients work that way. But for people who would rather hand something to a person, being ten minutes away is a real difference from being an hour away, and it is worth saying plainly.
The other consequence of proximity is that we know the area. Pickens County is not an abstraction to us; it is where the firm is.
What we see in Liberty
Liberty’s working population divides fairly cleanly. A large share commutes — to Easley, to Clemson, to Greenville — and files a straightforward return built on a W-2. The rest are small operators, and it is the overlap between the two groups that generates most of the actual work.
The single most common situation we handle here is someone with a regular job who has also started doing something on the side. The moment a hobby starts producing 1099s, the return changes shape: self-employment tax applies to the profit, expenses have to be substantiated rather than estimated, and quarterly payments usually become necessary. People almost never see that coming in the first year, and they are almost always relieved to find it is manageable once it is set up properly.
- Individuals and families filing federal and South Carolina returns
- Trades and contractors managing 1099 income, mileage and equipment
- Small retail and service businesses on and around Main Street
- Commuters into Easley, Clemson and Greenville with W-2 filings
- Anyone who has just started something on the side and is not sure what it means
- New businesses needing an entity set up before the first return is due
For businesses, the useful arrangement is usually books, payroll and the return handled by one firm. Not because it is cheaper — sometimes it is not — but because the alternative is three parties each holding part of the picture, and reconciling them in March is where the cost actually appears.

Do you have an office in Liberty?
No — our office is at 207 Siloam Road in Easley, about ten minutes away. That is close enough for most Liberty clients to drop documents off in person if they prefer, and everything can be handled remotely if they do not.
I am paid on a 1099. What do I need to bring?
Every 1099 you received, your own record of income in case one is missing, and expense records for the year — mileage, tools, materials, phone, insurance and anything else that belongs to the work. Bank and card statements help fill gaps. Self-employed tax services sets out what is deductible and what is not.
I started a side business this year. What changes?
Self-employment tax applies to the profit on top of income tax, expenses have to be substantiated rather than estimated, and quarterly estimated payments usually become necessary. It is entirely manageable once it is set up, and much less pleasant if the first time you think about it is at filing. Come in before the year ends rather than after.
Can you handle bookkeeping for a small business here monthly?
Yes, and for most businesses that is the right cadence — it keeps the accounts reconciled while the detail is still recallable, rather than reconstructing a year in March. Monthly bookkeeping covers what it involves.
Do I need an appointment?
Call (864) 781-4035 first, particularly between January and April when the office runs on a schedule. Outside filing season we are more flexible, but a call ahead still saves you a wasted trip.
