Work it out for yourself
Calculators for the decisions that come up most often — built to show the cost side as clearly as the saving, because that is the half that usually decides the answer.
Most tax calculators are built to produce an encouraging number. These are built to produce an honest one — which sometimes means showing that a strategy is not worth it at your numbers yet, or that a credit worth more than everything else on your return is one the calculator cannot see.
Every figure they use is a published federal rate, and each tool states the year it is working from and lists what it leaves out. They are federal only — South Carolina is a separate calculation. None of them replace advice on your actual situation, and none of them ask for anything about you: nothing you type is sent anywhere, and there is no form in front of any of them.
