How Virtual Tax Preparation Works

You can do the whole thing without visiting the office. Same preparer, same return, with your documents going through a secure portal instead of across a desk.

The same service, a different route

The in-office and virtual routes are the same service. In the Easley office you sit down with your documents and go through them together. Virtually, the documents go into the secure portal, the questions come back to you there, and the return is reviewed and signed electronically.

What does not change is who prepares the return. LaToya Clark-Thompson leads the work either way, and the person who answers when you ask why a number is what it is, is the person who prepared it.

What the client portal does

Your secure client portal (TaxDome) keeps the whole engagement in one place. Through it you can:

  • Upload documents whenever suits you, day or night
  • Complete questionnaires about your year
  • Review information and answer our questions
  • Message our team
  • Sign documents electronically
  • Make payments

Please do not email or text tax documents. W-2s, 1099s and IDs contain everything needed for identity theft, and anything sensitive belongs in the portal, not an inbox.

How a virtual return comes together

  1. Start at get started: tell us about you and create your portal account
  2. Book a virtual meeting if you want to talk your year through, or a free consultation first
  3. Upload your documents using the tax prep checklist as your guide
  4. We prepare the return and send any questions through the portal
  5. We walk you through the results before filing
  6. You review and sign electronically, and we e-file

Not every document arrives at once, and that is fine. Upload what you have and tell us what is still on its way.

Clients outside the Upstate

We are based in Easley, just outside Greenville, and file for clients across South Carolina and in other states. Where you live does not have to decide who prepares your return. If you moved out of South Carolina during the year, or moved here, the part-year state returns are part of the same engagement.

Business clients can work virtually as well: bookkeeping records can be dropped off in person or sent through the portal, and the monthly close is the same either way.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get my taxes done without going to the office?

Yes. The whole process runs through the secure client portal if you prefer: documents uploaded, questions answered, return reviewed and signed electronically. You can still book a virtual meeting to talk your year through. The Easley office is there for anyone who would rather sit down in person, and it is the same preparer either way.

Is it safe to upload tax documents online?

A secure client portal built for tax work is the right place for them, and much safer than email or text, which is why we ask clients never to send documents that way. Protect your end too: use a strong, unique password for the portal, do not share the login, and upload from a device and network you trust.

Can you prepare my taxes if I live in another state?

Yes. We are based in Easley and file for clients across South Carolina and in other states through the virtual route. If you have income in more than one state, or moved during the year, tell us at the start so the right state returns are included in the scope from the beginning.

How do I sign my tax return virtually?

Through the client portal. Once the return is prepared, we walk you through the results, and you review the return and sign electronically, including the e-file authorization. If you are filing jointly, your spouse signs as well. After that we e-file the return, and your copy stays available in the portal.

Not the question you had? The full tax FAQ covers more ground, and our client reviews say what the work is actually like.
